Social Bookmarking with OpenID

This seems to be another case where OpenID users are needlessly forced to pick a second, site-specific identifier once OpenID auth succeeds for the first time. I don't mind goving them my name and maybe my email address if that information interests them, but I shouldn't have to pick an identifier — which must be unique within that site — when I already have a “globally”-unique identifier in the form of my identity URL.

I noticed that the OpenID wiki does this as well: my OpenID login can't be called "Mart" because there's already another account called "Mart". I realise that this is going to be OpenID's fate when it comes to integration with most ex-password-based systems, but it's a shame that our own wiki can't set a better example.

I agree there's a problem here, but I don't see any good solution for it. Would you prefer if the wiki called you http://mart.livejournal.com/?
