Passport Update

Well, it doesn't seem actually that bad. Cover color is faded a bit and no longer has clean edges. Pages are all intact, including the lamination on the first page where my picture and info is. Stamps are all there, some a bit faded, though the Belize bled through like two pages. So we'll see how it goes, taking birth certificate, and as many other forms of picture id that I can find with me. Then hoping embassy in Geneva can issue a new one on Monday.

TRY NOT TO GET YOUR PASSPORT REISSUED ABROAD DUE TO DAMAGE/LOSS. Seriously, I allcapsed that because, if you do, you may get an interrogation every time you return to the US. I certainly do. From what I remember on losing my US passport (once when I was 15 and once in 2003), US embassies (or consulates, which is what Geneva will be, on account of not being in a capital city*) do not issue full-term passports, and just give you a one-year temp passport, so you'd have to mail it off to the passport service once you return home. If you can return home with a mangled passport and a shitload of ID, that's the best plan, I think.

*exceptions exist in countries like Israel, where very few embassies are located in Jerusalem, which Israel considers its capital but which international law still considers disputed territory.

Yeah, I got into Geneva just fine. More worried about getting into Brussels than back home in San Francisco. Then have a week before I goto Munich.
