Last Saturday I was in Hangzhou China speaking at the 2nd China Internet Developer's Conference put on by Alibaba which is partially owned by Yahoo!. Nob (from Six Apart Japan) shot some video when I was speaking. Check out the four minute clip below where I talk about how relationships can be stored online within globally segregated social networks or with the open standards FOAF and the Microformat XFN. I then demo the Google Social Graph API to start painting the picture of how it is no longer theoretical to have a person login to a new social application using an OpenID and then discover what services they use around the web and who they know.

Also take a look at the talk "OpenID, OAuth, OpenSocial, Oh My!" by Joseph Smarr of Plaxo from Google I/O today in San Francisco. If you can keep up with his pace you'll glean a lot about where this stuff is going from Joseph! In this clip he talks about the notion of a "social graph provider" which continues to build on my example from China.
